Bananas Foster is a delightful experience that captures the essence of indulgence. This classic American dessert combines caramelized bananas with a rich rum sauce, creating a delightful explosion of flavors that dances on the palate.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 ripe bananas, peeled and cut in half lengthwise
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup dark rum
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vanilla ice cream (optional but highly recommended for a creamy contrast)
Chopped walnuts or pecans (for added texture and a nutty flavor)
Instructions
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Allow it to foam slightly but not brown.
Add the brown sugar and cinnamon to the melted butter. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to bubble.
Carefully add the banana halves to the skillet, cut side down. Cook for about 2 minutes until they begin to soften and caramelize.
Gently flip the bananas using a spatula, allowing the other side to cook for another 2 minutes.
Pour the dark rum over the bananas. To flambé, carefully ignite the rum using a long lighter or match, allowing the flames to engulf the bananas briefly.
Once the flames have died down, add the vanilla extract and swirl the pan to mix everything together.
Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
