A comforting dish that combines seasoned ground beef with melted cheese in a toasted sub roll, perfect for family dinners or quick lunches.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 cup marinara sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese (optional)
4 sub rolls or hoagie buns
Butter for toasting
Instructions
In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent.
Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart until it’s browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Season the beef with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning, and stir in the marinara sauce. Simmer for about 2-3 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise, leaving a hinge. Spread a thin layer of butter on the inner sides of the rolls.
Place the rolls on a baking sheet. Spoon the beef mixture evenly into each roll.
Top each filled roll with mozzarella and provolone cheese.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the rolls are lightly toasted.
Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute before serving.
