Honey Walnut Shrimp is a delicious and popular dish, especially known from the beloved fast-casual chain, Panda Express. This dish combines the sweet and savory flavors of fried shrimp, creamy honey garlic sauce, and crunchy candied walnuts, creating a delightful harmony of textures and tastes.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup water
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
1 cup walnuts
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water for walnuts
1/4 teaspoon salt for walnuts
Vegetable or canola oil for frying
Instructions
In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and salt for the walnuts. Bring to a boil over medium heat while stirring gently to dissolve the sugar completely. Add the walnuts and cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-6 minutes. Remove from heat and spread the walnuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow them to cool and harden.
In a large bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, water, egg, and salt until you achieve a smooth batter. Let it rest for about 10 minutes.
In a deep skillet or wok, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Dip each shrimp into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off before gently placing them in the hot oil.
Fry the shrimp in batches, cooking until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and drain them on paper towels.
In a small bowl, whisk together honey, mayonnaise, sweetened condensed milk, soy sauce, and minced garlic until smooth.
In a large bowl, toss the fried shrimp with the honey garlic sauce until they are evenly coated. Add the candied walnuts and gently mix to combine.
Transfer your homemade Honey Walnut Shrimp to a serving platter. Garnish with additional walnuts if desired, and enjoy!
